Machine Learning Group

The Machine Learning Group at the University of Waikato helped shape the open-source community in the machine learning space with its well-known machine learning workbench WEKA. WEKA was mainly aimed at batch-processing, though it also had some support for incremental learning and processing of data. Later on, MOA was developed to provide an optimized framework for data stream learning, which has become very popular in the open-source community.

WaiRAS

The Waikato Robotics, Automation and Sensing group has skills spanning artificial Intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, time-of-flight sensing, non-destructive testing, control and bespoke hardware development. The group's vision is to be the most reputable and respected research organization in Robotics, Automation and Sensing technologies in the Waikato region.

Applied Machine Learning Group

The Applied Machine Learning Group is active in the commercial space, offering not only general machine learning consulting, but also software for processing spectral (managing data, building models, making predictions, tying into business processes).

MOA Lab

The Massive Online AI Lab is leading the "Realtime Analytics of Big Data" programme (RABiD) funded through the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) Entrepreneurial Universities grant.

ORCA Lab

The Oceania Researchers in Cloud and Adaptive-systems (ORCA) lab, Ohu Rangahau Kapua Aunoa in Te Reo Māori, was formed in 2018 at the Department of Computer Science, University of Waikato. Its mission is to facilitate excellent research in the fields of Self-Adaptive and Self-Organizing software systems focusing on Cloud, Language Runtime and Embedded Systems

CROW

In 2013, the Cybersecurity Researchers of Waikato group became the first cyber security lab established in a New Zealand educational institution and in the same year launched New Zealand’s first Master of Cyber Security degree. CROW also hosts the annual New Zealand Cyber Security Challenge.

'Future Law' Technology and Society Research Group

The 'Future Law' Technology and Society Research group comprises of academics and researchers from Te Piringa - Faculty of  Law, University of  Waikato, and building on existing research excellence and international impact is focused on legal, ethical and public policy issues related to emerging, new or innovative technologies.
